Title: Pump Pressure Drops when it comes on?
Post by: kirkdj on June 03, 2013, 06:00:43 PM
ok...this is my 1st submersible pump........still in house construction..........we have a temp tank hooked up right by the well.............6" well, 1 HP Goulds pump, set at 300 ft. on a 385 ft. well.........I noticed that when the pump comes on at 38 psi, the pressure immediately drops as the pump is calling to come on and as it comes up to pressure...........it's very noticeable drop in pressure if your using a hose pipe and the gauge drops down to 10-15 lbs. as the pressure switch closes and it immediately comes back up as the pump gets going.....then it pumps right on up to 60 lbs. with no problem.  Not sure what is causing that drop?

Is this pressure drop normal?  and if not what could be the problem?

Probably just too much air in the pressure tank.  If the pump starts at 38 and you have 38 or more PSI of air in the tank, the pressure will momentarily drop to zero beofre the pump starts to catch up.  Starting the pump at 38 PSI, you don't want more than 33 PSI in the tank.
