Hi there!
New guy with my first question. I looked around online for a few hours but couldn't find an answer.
I am currently building my well system for a new house. My pitless adapter will be at 30 inches depth, frost depth here in the Ca high desert. I would like to put a CSV at the outlet of the pitless, rather than hanging it inside the well. Is there a CSV that can be buried directly in the dirt or will it need to be inside some sort of a box? I like the idea of being able to access it easily and dislike having anything extra in the well that could break/unscrew/fail etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice, and thank you for providing this forum so beginners like me can potentially figure things out! :o

Hi Steve
You can't just bury a CSV as it needs to breath a little air to work properly. But you can put it in a valve box or culvert pipe. However, It would probably be easier to access hanging in the well than at the bottom of a 30" deep valve box, but a lot of people do it that way. The CSV125 is made to hang in the well as long as you don't have more than 500# of weight on it.

Hi Cary,
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to think about what I want to do. Have you heard of anyone having problems putting the CSV in the well and having it break off or unscrew from the pump starting torque? I probably won't have much more than 100 pounds hanging on it.
Thanks again,
Steve

Been hanging CSV's in the well for 25 years no problem. It takes about 5000# to break a CSV125, so we only recommend 500# or less. Just don't use any pipe dope as that attacks the plastic. Other than that they are as strong as steel.

So no pipe dope, but teflon tape is ok?

Yes and you can get them as tight as needed, won't come unscrewed. Just no pipe dope.

Ok, that's what I will do. Thanks for making the install easier!
