Title: Installation in Cabin??

I have a 1hp 120 volt pump @ 40' deep rated at 18 gpm. The pressure tank is buried by the well and has gone bad causing the well to cycle constantly when using water. I want to install your PK1A in the unheated crawl space. I was thinking i could wrap heat wire and insulate the kit or just drain it when we leave. We only go there 1-2 times per month in the winter in upper west michigan. 

Question 1: Can I leave the old tank in place or must I remove it?

Any thoughts you may have would help.

Yes you can insulated and heat tape the pump and PK1A kit, or just drain it.  You don't have to dig up and remove the old tank, but it needs to be disconnected from the water line.  Bad tanks grow nasty stuff inside that you don't want in the house.

Thank you for your reply. What are your thoughts on my switch constantly cycling when you turn the faucet on? It stops when water is off. Also the water surges in the faucet every time the pump kicks on.  I assumed the pressure tank went bad as its 15+ yrs old.

Yeah you have a waterlogged tank.  It needs to be replaced.  You can use one of the PK1A kits to replace the tank, but the line to the old tank will need to be plugged.
