Title: Question concerning installation of CSV1A
Post by: techinstructor on August 24, 2013, 01:32:02 PM
I'm getting ready to install a CSV1A.  The instructions specify using teflon tape to wrap the threads of the fittings that will join to the valve assembly.  In the past we've used Oatey Great White Pipe Joint Compound, http://www.oatey.com/products/thread-sealants/pipe-thread-sealants/great-white-pipe-joint-compound-with-ptfe (http://www.oatey.com/products/thread-sealants/pipe-thread-sealants/great-white-pipe-joint-compound-with-ptfe) in lieu of tape and have found it to be superior in creating leakproof joints.

The installation instructions for the thermoplastic CSV specifically cautioned against using pipe dope on threads of fittings because it could potentially damage the valve.  There is no mention of that in the CSV1A instructions, but I would prefer to ask someone in the know before going ahead and using it.  Does anyone on here know if this product is safe to use with the CSV1A valve?

Thank you.

Pipe dope is fine as long as excess doesn't end up gumming up the valve.
