Title: Placement of cycle stop valve
Post by: tedlemmon on September 13, 2016, 03:47:17 PM
I am installing a deep well, 1 hp pump delivering 15gpm, and have a 3 ton open loop geothermal heat pump being installed. House is 3 bedroom. Heat pump will run virtually always in first stage, requiring about 5gpm. The driller is suggesting a cycle stop valve at the top of the well, which would actually be under ground. I would have to house it in some sort of box, I guess. The house is about 200 ft from the well, using 1-1/4 pipe. 34 gal pressure tank at the house. Is this the best location for the cycle stop valve, and where can I view a line diagram of an install like this?

The easiest place to put the CSV is probably down the well a few feet.  This is easy for a pump installer when he is already there with the hoist truck.  You can see an in well CSV installation at this link.

Good diagram, thanks. I am going to show this to my driller.

You or the driller can all me if you have any questions.  I am always happy to explain the CSV to a driller or pump man when I get a chance.
