Title: New Jet Pump Problems
Post by: gaffcat on April 15, 2021, 08:12:11 PM
I recently bought a new Sta-Rite SNE-L 1HP Shallow Well Jet Pump. I am in Alaska and it came all the way from Florida. I have a CSV valve and that all works great. On first start up it started pumping right away. I had a small leak on the outlet that I didn't fix right away. When I did fix the outlet leak I realized that what was leaking worse was the pump shaft seal.  I called the dealer and they said I could return the pump. I decided to get a new seal kit instead and put it in myself. Perhaps it was a factory defect. I just finished that job and it still leaks though slower.

Seals can be tricky to put in.  Make sure not to touch the sealing surfaces with your fingers.  A leaking seal either is leaking from the sealing surfaces not working properly or the rubber backing is not sealing correctly.  Will always be a problem until you get the seal fixed.
