Title: I'd like to install a filter before my CSV, is there one that's recommended
Post by: Wayde on February 13, 2022, 07:38:26 AM
Sediment in my well is pretty bad, I'd like to install a filter before the CSV, I had this Rusco  (http://Rusco)unit installed a few years ago, but I purchased the 15 micron mesh and that clogged instantly, so I took it out.  They do have mesh sizes up to 700 microns.  I could reinstall the Rusco but what micron mesh would be appropriate to install before the valve? Are there any other filter and assemblies that you recommend?

The smaller the filter particle size the quicker the filter will clog.  You really only need maybe a 20 mesh screen first.  If it is a CSV125 even small particles will cause it to leak, as it is made for clean water applications.  But the CSV1A is designed to handle some debris, and it is probably best to filter after the CSV1A.  Placing the filter before the CSV it will see more pressure than if after the CSV.  You need to know the back pressure of your pump to make sure the filter before the CSV is rated for enough pressure.

The filter has a 150psi rating and the closest available insert is 24 mesh.  The filter came with a 1000 mesh insert and it was funny because that clogged up instantly, I thought the pump hadn't kicked in.

The CSV125 also has a 150 PSI rating.  Just check the pump model to make sure it doesn't build more than 150 PSI.
