Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / New Jet Pump Problems
« on: April 15, 2021, 08:12:11 PM »
I recently bought a new Sta-Rite SNE-L 1HP Shallow Well Jet Pump. I am in Alaska and it came all the way from Florida. I have a CSV valve and that all works great. On first start up it started pumping right away. I had a small leak on the outlet that I didn't fix right away. When I did fix the outlet leak I realized that what was leaking worse was the pump shaft seal.  I called the dealer and they said I could return the pump. I decided to get a new seal kit instead and put it in myself. Perhaps it was a factory defect. I just finished that job and it still leaks though slower.

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / New Pump and Tank.

My shallow well 1/2hp jet pump is bad so I have a new Sta-Rite 1hp pump not yet installed. There is a CSV1A in the system and running at 40/60. I have had a 20 gallon tank but got to thinking that I would get a smaller tank also so bought a new 4.5 gallon tank. The well serves two small houses.  I am now thinking that I should have got a larger tank say 8-10 gallons because of the bigger pump. I think I understand that it will work either way but I read somewhere that higher hp pumps want to run longer.

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / Re: CSV Stopped Working

Thank you for the info. A while ago I bought from you a CSV1A valve but haven't installed it. The CSV12560-1 was installed in my pump room and I was annoyed by the occasional dripping. The new valve will require some re arrangement of plumbing so I have put off doing it, perhaps now is the time.

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / CSV Stopped Working

I have a model CSV12560-1, an above ground jet pump, a 40/60 pressure switch and a small diaphragm pressure tank. The system has worked great for 5+ years. A couple times recently the water system shut down, no water. I went out to the pump room and tried the simplest thing: turning the little lever on the pressure switch and the pump started and every thing was fine. This happened a few times. I figured I needed a new pressure switch and installed one. The new switch is exactly the same as the old one but now the system operates like there is no CSV. The pump cycles between 40 and 60 over and over as I can see it on a gauge.

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / Pump Recommendation
« on: September 11, 2016, 01:57:37 PM »
I have a working system with a CSV12560-1. It is a shallow well and I currently have a Flint & Walling 1/2hp CPJ05B pump and 40-60 switch. There are just two people in my house but we have a small rental house also on the same system. The system works but the pump runs a long time to get up to 60 lbs pressure. The pump is also 20 years old. I would like to upgrade to a higher capacity pump to reduce run time and supply more water. I have been looking at pumps but I am overwhelmed by all the choices. I want a good pump and as my current pump has lasted so long I could replace it with another of the same model but higher hp. Perhaps it is a dated design though. What should I look for in a pump to be the best fit for use with a Cycle Stop Valve? Do you have any specific recommendations for a 1hp pump?

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / Re: Sediment Filter

You say a 1 hp jet pump can only build 70-85 PSI max. Can a 1/2hp jet pump build 60 psi? My pump currently has a 30-50 psi switch. I ordered a CSV12550-1 valve and a 40-60 switch and plan to try it with my current 1/2hp pump and see how it goes. My well water level is about 15' and I think that might have a bearing on pump performance.

Pumps, Wells, Tanks, Controls / Sediment Filter

I currently have a 1/2hp shallow well jet pump and I want to add a csv valve and replace the 1/2hp pump with a 3/4 or 1hp pump.  There is sand in my system and I am concerned about the csv valve and sand. I have read on this forum about installing a filter before the csv and it is noted that there is high pressure between the pump and csv and a filter needs to be able to handle this. Is there an estimate of the pressure that would be in my system? I have seen the Sandmaster mentioned and have searched for alternatives but all I have found are filters that are recommended for installation after the pump and pressure tank. The Sandmaster is probably the way to go.

I have another question concerning check valves. I would probably buy the pside-kick kit. At least one photo I have seen shows a check valve mounted on the pump before the pside-kick but there is no check valve included in the kit and none shown in the installation instructions. Is the check valve required?
