Backpressure DOES NOT HURT YOUR PUMP. It actually makes the pumps work easier and the motor runs cooler as it pulls fewer amps. The Backpressure from a CSV just makes the pump think it is in a deeper well. The same pump will safely produce a lot of water from a shallow well or less water from a deep well. All the CSV does, is make the pump think it is in a deeper well when less water is required.
The backpressure from the CSV will be as high as the particular pump can build, less the depth to the static water level. If your pump can produce 200 PSI but it is 231’ to the water level, then the backpressure at the CSV will only be 100 PSI. You will never see more than 100 PSI at the surface, because the lift from 231’ is using up the other 100 PSI that the pump can build.
The main reason backpressure is even discussed when using a CSV, is to determine if the pipe is rated for enough pressure. Backpressure will not hurt the pump.
