Not understanding backpressure and what kind of pipe I need
« on: April 29, 2014, 06:04:20 PM »
Most searches I've done and things I have read are about wells.  I am going to using a cistern only, no well, so that may mean back-pressure is not an issue.  The plan is 1/2 hp submersible 10 gpm pump.  The total rise from the pump to the fixtures is probably no more than 12-15 feet.  If I use a PSIde-kick kit do I need any kind of special water pipe?  I assume just 1" pvc schedule 80 from pump all the way to the pressure tank?

A 1/2HP, 10 GPM pump can only produce 96 PSI of back pressure.  Just about any pipe you want to use can handle that little amount of pressure.  Sch 80 or even Sch 40 is plenty for this application.
