what valve if any...
« on: June 16, 2016, 08:08:48 AM »
Hi,new Guy here
I have a situation I,m trying to sort out.
will a CSV12550-1 work in my system?
well specs.
-4" well - 315' deep - pump set 280' - 230' to water - 1-1/4" drop pipe
pump specs.
-Jacuzz S418-14p - installed in 6/22/00
installing a 36 3GPM heads - 9 zone sprinkler system
I was told the 18GPM pump was set too deep but would work at a lower GPM w/44 gal. bladder tank.
checked out to be 13GPM at 300' of 1" PVC through an outside faucet. (through the house and my shop)
any advice?

the sprinkler system is designed for all 1-1/4" PVC pipe.

You are almost out of pump at 230' and 50 PSI with that pump.  It will still pump 13 GPM at that depth and pressure.  But if the water level pulls down any lower the pump cannot handle it.

You would be better off with a CSV12540-1 and a 30/50 pressure switch if you can live with 40 PSI on the sprinklers.  You really need a 12-15 GPM pump instead of the 18 GPM pump at that depth.

if I replace this 16 year old pump, what would be your recommendation for a pump and valve.

reaching out there...
a friend has a Myers 1/2 HP 12 GPM pump with a bad Franklin motor.
question: can I put my 1-1/2 HP Franklin motor off my 18 GPM pump on that 12 GPM pump head?

Sure you can always put a larger motor on a smaller pump end.  But it will still only pump 1/2HP worth of water.  It may work fine for your friend, but it won't lift water from 220' as in your well.  A 12 GPM, 1/2HP is only good to about 80' deep and still be able to deliver 50 PSI as needed.

If you want to run a 12 GPM sprinkler zone at 50 PSI from say 250', you will need a 10 or 12 GPM, 1.5HP pump and motor.  An 18 GPM, 1.5HP won't work from that depth.

if I change the drop pipe to 1", will that help in any way?

1" pipe will increase the friction loss, and at 13 GPM the pump would think it was 35' deeper.  It would not be able to pump as much water as if you had 1 1/4" pipe.

first I would like to thank Cary for all his help...
next thank him for an awesome product.
50 PSI, 77 heads, 35' radius, set 30' apart, 18 zones.
zone on the end is 300' from the well. set the heads 35' from the edge of the highway and on startup had to dial them back, they were watering the centerline... 8)
I am ordering a friend of mine a CSV for his well. he is finishing up a new house for his parents that is on the same well as his house.

thanks Frank
