Automatic Submersible Pumps?
« on: May 07, 2021, 09:04:20 PM »
What are your thoughts on using a CSV with automatic submersible pumps installed in a cistern that turn on/off based on integral pressure & flow controls like the following:

Strom BSP - https://www.swisspacific.com/bottom-suction-pump

or

Grundfos SBA-3-45 - https://product-selection.grundfos.com/sa/products/sb-sba/sba?tab=documentation

The demand controls (flow, pressure) would be before the CSV so wasn't sure how that would effect things if at all.

Thanks

Lol!  Any of those so called "automatic" pumps are designed to automatically remove money from your pocketbook.  The flow switch thing is not new.  All pump companies have a version of this controller as it is the best thing to help them sell more and more pumps.  There are many problems with this design.  They are not reliable or long lasting, which is the point.  They are made to be easily replaced as you will have to replace them often.

Don't fall for the hype!  Anything that a pump company advertises is because that is what they make the most money on.  Use something to control your pump like the Cycle Stop Valve, which pump companies hate, because it will make your pump last many times longer than they want it to.

The bottom suction thing is also not good as the motor diameter is much smaller.  This allows much less room for a good motor and proper sized bearings.  But they make it sound inviting, which is why people fall for these things.

Use a regular submersible well pump with a flow inducer sleeve.  Controlled by a Cycle Stop Valve, with a regular pressure switch and small pressure tank it will last so long you will not have to think about it again for 30 years.
